Design [merged thread]

Hello,

After using WHCMS for a while I have found that the design is a little confusing to allot of people compared to other products.

1. The admin area looks messy and cluttered and doesn't flow well once you know your way around you can get to places you want but it takes a while.

2. The client side is also confusing for some customers, when they load up the site they are greeted with either lots of options, or in the newer design it's not straight away clear how to just order something... Users shouldn't have to put in a domain until they go to order it makes them feel like they have to enter a domain just to see what our packages are.

The design needs to be cleaned up and made more fluid like other products.

Hello,

After using WHCMS for a few moths (moved away from Hostbill because of there pricing) I have found that whilst WHCMS is very powerful the design is awful in both store and admin side (the client area / ticketing isn't to bad).

The whole thing just seems to be a bit cluttered and messy and doesn't flow very well. When a client goes to my store i want them to see my store not have to go through hurdles to find the thing... My website is for all the other stuff.

Now not everyone is going to agree with me but when i go onto a website to buy something the first thing i like to see is the various options (for web hosting) or popular products etc. Load up WHCMS the first thing you see is the domain checker.. personally i prefer that as part of the registration / ordering not the first thing you see.

The admin area is also so cluttered i have to sometimes think where to go to change something or hunt for it, it should all be clear and user friendly which unfortunately i find WHCMS isn't.

Don't get me wrong i love the system it self and the options you can find, but just imagine how much better it would be if things where clearer.

As far as the front-end goes, its not going to be an out of the box design for every user, that comes down to you to design or pay a designer to tailor to what you need.

It certainly isn't designed to be your entire website (although many have managed to make this work), so seeing the domain checker first IS part of the ordering system.

WHMCS is a "billing" system afterall, its not a full website solution.

The admin side, well I have no issue with this to be honest.

Once you spend some weeks/months working in it, it all becomes second nature.

I realise that the front end isnt for out of the box design, but there are only so many modifications you can do to it. I have paid to have it fit into our website. If you look at other solutions (ok there not as powerful in most cases) but they look decent.

Maybe i wasn't so clear about the domain checker what i meant was it would look better if that came after choosing the packages in my personal opinion. I never said that WHCMS was a full website solution but it is part of the website so it needs to be cleaned up i think it just looks a bit... clunky.

The admin side isnt so important no and yes you can get used it and learn it, they have designed it and it looks more confusing than it really is and it doesn't need to be. It shouldn't take months or even weeks to get used to it it should only take hours / days. They ask for all these new features and all that happens is they get added in hidden in an option somewhere or its added to a list / drop down it just could be so much smoother.

But as i said this is my personal opinion and i respect that you and others like it the way it is at the end of the day they cant please everyone in every way and as much as i like the system it self i just think it could do with a make over.
