WHMCS V5.1 Preview: New Domain Functionality

Following on from our first WHMCS V5.1 preview last week , I thought this week we would take a look at some of the great new domain functionality we’ve got coming up in our latest update.

Domains are without doubt a key part of the hosting experience for every web host, and with that in mind, there should be something for everyone in what we have added here. The new functionality is intended to open up more avenues of revenue from your existing clients, allowing you to increase your profits while also reducing your workload.

Domain Addons

A new dedicated Domain Addons tab in the client area provides a place to promote and allow retrospective purchasing of domain addons at any time for existing clients. This allows for fully automated hands-free purchasing, provisioning and cancellation of domain extras at any time. So now your clients can purchase ID protection and other addons at any time they wish.

Grouped Domain Expiry Notices

For clients who have a lot of domains with you, receiving an email reminder about each individual one expiring can be annoying. And so as of 5.1, if a client has multiple domains expiring in a single month, they will get a single reminder containing all of the domains for the 60 and 30 day advanced notices.

Improved Domain Syncing

A new and improved domain synchronisation routine, whereby all domains status and expiry dates are synced via a single cron job, across all the various registrars you use, and which can be configured to run as often as you like, performing transfer status update checks every time it runs, and automatically throttling active domain expiry syncs.

There’s also improved handling of transfers, whereby if a domain registrar’s API supports returning a failure reason, WHMCS will use this to notify a client automatically should a transfer fail (Enom only at this time) in addition to the successful transfer confirmation email.

More Registrar Module Functionality

Additional functionality has been added including the ability to resend transfer approval emails, cancel domain transfers and delete domains with both Enom and ResellerClub.

TLD Specific Field Handling

Additional TLD specific field handling has been implemented to support more of the less common TLDs and their registry specific requirements by default, and with more registrars than ever before.

Domain Registrars

The available domain registrar dropdown menus will be limited to just those registrar modules you have specifically activated and configured in your WHMCS installation, giving you a much more manageable list to work with.

Until next time...
