A few questions following a trial period test

allynne

Question

We are looking at changing our order/billing system to WHMcs as we have heard a lot of good points for it. On first look I would have to agree that this is potentially the best product available at this stage and has the potential to remain the best.

However, we did find some issues during our testing and would like to ask if these are actual problems or simply the way we have things setup.

First off, an explanation of what we have setup. Basically we have a small product range that consists of domain name registration only, email hosting, DIY hosting, and design & host.

Because we are UK based, our target market is primarily the .co.uk domain which, as we all know, has a 2 year registration period. With this in mind we have both an annual and biennial pricing option. Pricing for out design & host packages are set as a standard setup cost (regardless of period) and a recurring hosting charge. Design & host packages also receive a free domain registration for their yearly hosting.

Scenario: client orders a design & host package and selects a .co.uk domain name to register. Because the .co.uk is for 2 years they decide to pay for 2 years hosting also. NB: billing options only exist on this product for 1 or 2 years, both offer a free domain)

Issue 1: after selecting their domain name and moving to step 3, the default 1 year hosting shows as having a free domain but the domain area still shows this as being charged for the 2 year price. What would be expected is that this shows as being either a 1 year price (which would have to be hidden from the client as a selectable option) or that it would show as free and we would have to absorb the cost and anticipate that the hosting would be renewed for the 2nd year.

Issue 2: on changing the hosting period to 2 years the domain charge changes to free but says '1 Year/s Free Domain' (I understand that this may be just a language file change). On changing back to a 1 year hosting period the domain remains as free.

Issue 3: using the breadcrumb to go back to Domain Options forgets that this is a new domain registration and changes to 'I will update my nameservers on an existing domain Or I will register a new domain.'

Issue 4: having selected a 2 year hosting period and continuing to step 4, the order now shows charging for the 1 year hosting option.

For testing purposes we added a 6 month price and this is now shown as the selected option regardless of which period the client selects.

Possible Issue: if the client has selected 2 years hosting, does the domain get registered for 2 years also (assuming a .com or yearly domain) and will the free domain renewal be automatically included in the renewed hosting?

Issue 5: having completed an order and being shown the invoice for payment, the balance shown has a '-' between the currency symbol and the amount indication a negative figure???? (NB: This is NOT in the template, I've checked :) )

Only had time for a quick read through your post, but for the last point, you are looking at the balance, which should of course be negative until paid because the client is in debt.

We are also having Issue #4, are you able to determine what is causing this problem?

No matter the billing cycle chosen, it always reverts to the quickest billing term when arriving on step 4.
