cmsplushosting
I thought I'd post this blurb, I noticed many people like to do without a CMS, But this is a reason to go with a CMS, our company offers mostly (90%) of our business Content Management sites. Using software such as Umbraco, Wordpress, Joomla, DotNetNuke Why you should use a CMS driven hosting site: Links are Managed-Never get a 404 again! Audit trail, for your staff Central place for designs/templates Versioning Workflow --- very important, you could integrate your ordering process. w/certain steps. A TON of modules for any CMS out there Just something I couldn't resist posting, I noticed so many companies are missing common navigation, and things that could probably be avoided doing a CMS based site. mojahed
But if the company have only 8 pages with static contents (like information about the company or hosting packages) why install cms and integrate the original template to the cms (wordpress for- example) when this company can design 8 simple HTML pages ? I agree with you only if the company have a blog Edited July 25, 2011 by mojahed
cmsplushosting
Hmm good comment; An entirely static page is more work; However, in the long run for sustainability (and change) as most of the web is... CMS works great. I see the argument however... Small sites with less than 10 pages, could probably do just well with a website without a CMS. If the site is larger than that, a CMS makes perfect sense. Good comment, I know this is a big topic..
othellotech
>Links are Managed-Never get a 404 again! A CMS doesnt prevent 404's - uderstanding what you're doing when changing page names is required - it's much easier to end up with 404's when using a CMS as you're not necessarily thinking about site and file management, expecting the "app" to do everything for you >Audit trail, for your staf >Versioning CMS dependant. Websites shoudl be considered in the same way as corporate documentation - and lack of version control/management of official documents should be a capital offence >Central place for designs/templates Maybe >Workflow --- very important, you could integrate your ordering process. w/certain steps. Isnt (generaly) a feature of a Content Management System - perhaps you're confusing ERP and CMS >A TON of modules for any CMS out there 99.7% of which are useless, insecure cr@p

cmsplushosting
just what I was thinking Good comments; Some of which are quite valid; I think its a pretty good discussion. There are some quality modules/addons for many CMS systems out there; ie. Umbraco, or Wordpress. Some can be quite frustrating, and some can also be huge security risks. (cough) always do yur homework when dealing with a module or add-on your unsure of... The ERP/CRM statement is now something most newer CMS packages are starting to embrace. Turning their CMS into a full Workflow system is something that can help many businesses with their ordering, or otherwise executing other events during any stage. I know Umbraco has this functionality, and I know many other CMS's are trying to embrace this as well... good to know. Good comments keep em comin!
