MYSQL limitations question

Hi,

Can you please tell me which of the following limitations would PREVENT some part/module of whmcs from running properly

disable_functions = "shell_exec, passthru, proc_open, proc_close, proc_get-status, proc_nice, proc_terminate, exec, system, suexec, popen, pclose, dl, ini_set, virtual, set_time_limit, show_source, phpinfo"

thanks in advance!

MACscr,

I think that's a little bit of a broad statement :). The host may be awesome. They may be the most secure host on the planet with the best service and with 100% happy customers. I think the definition of a good host and horrible host is a very subjective one dont you? In fact that server may be rykios' own server!

rykios,

Are you unable to get WHMCS working? or was that just a general question?

Cheers,

Paul

wow, dont have an answer for you, but who ever uses those settings is a horrible host. I would switch in a second.
They may not be a horrible host, in fact I'm sure they're wonderful charming caring people who help lost toddlers and old ladies across the road. However, be that as it may, their PHP implementation is almost useless. Security is all well and good, but if you feel a need to turn everything off to get there, we have a problem Houston.

Another example of this is the way the military keep their top equipment secure - put the machine in a bunker with no internet connection. Secure? Yup! Actually useful? Nup! (I'm being a little over the top, this security does have it's uses, of course, but not for most of us.)

We see absolutely nothing wrong with disabling functions, however, we will also place a customer needing many of these on another box.

Perhaps ask your host to place you on another box where the required functions are not disabled.

From what I know, shell_exec, exec, system and phpinfo are all required to some extent for using WHMCS. ini_set may also be necessary if the admin section ever supports localization. passthru may also be necessary, but have never seen it called.

Again, ask you host to allow or swtich you somewhere else, or then you should consider finding a host that doesn't limit you from using these functions.

Cheers!

Play nice guys... we're all in the same sandbox. We need to help one another not be critical to the point where we run users off. We're a big happy family. Here... take my sand pail and play with my shovel...

really strange how a simple question can ...irritate people :)

Its a simple question, do not plan to discuss in this topic or somewhere else why this and why that and what for and how good host is someone limiting some things and for what purpose and blah blah blah

Just a technical question! :D

Also realized Matt may not want to reply in public, if this is the case please feel free to delete this post and reply by email or PM

Hi Paul, this is not a "theoretical" question m8 :)

WHMCS been working fine for about a year now with limitations changing at times according to what needed limited at certain time periods - i believe you understand ;) At this time i may have to limit this set of functions, few days trial run > had issues as expected... thus asking in case a simple answer ( like " this will prevent that module, rest have no effect on whmcs" ) would solve problem ...

  • WHMCS CEO

WHMCS will work ok with those disabled. The dl function being disabled will stop Ioncube runtime decoding from working and the exec and phpinfo functions will stop the server status working but neither of those are critical issues.
