Client paying by email / logging in from email

A client of mine expressed a couple issues of trying to pay online when using only email.

 

When clicking the link to the invoice it contains the invoice ID and asks them to login (even if they selected remember me the previous month). Is the remember me cookie for clients very short?

 

Next, when they enter a wrong user or password, the invoice ID is lost, so then when the correct details are entered they are returned to an invoice that does not exist.

 

Ideally, the client thinks the cookie should keep them logged in so they can just click the invoice to see overview and how to pay (for invoices which do not include a button).
