danami
We use the whmcs downloads area to distribute our software using whmcs (with the licensing addon) and it would be good if we had better reporting for who is actually downloading our software. Currently I think that WHMCS just counts the number of downloads.. but it would be good if it reported IP address, browser, etc.
GGWH-James
While it could be beneficial to know if a particular client has downloaded a piece of software, and more specifically, which version of it; I could see the database becomeing somewhat bloated if recording too much info about every download. I would assume that you would want to know if someone is sharing their account access to allow download of your software by wanting to know the IP addresses, but encryption and good licensing can be a resolution to that. I would guess that the browser info would have to do with profiling your clients, allowing for better marketing. From a tech support stand-point though, at least tracking downloads on a per-client basis may be helpful and could be easily implemented with a single column within the database. A support agent could then see easily what version of a particular software that a client is actually using, or at least, has downloaded anyway. Regardless, I agree, further information beyond the download count would be useful. Edited October 1, 2010 by GGWH-James

We have robust logging of all other areas in WHMCS (activity, mail, whois, ticketing) .. and it could use the same "prune" records feature that the others have (if you ware concerned about that sort of thing).
danami
I guess at the very least add a field for google analytics download tracking: http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55529

Yes, that could work as well.
