When switching to different language some characters show up incorrectly?

I switched the language to swedish and characters that are supposed to look like ä show up as ö.

 

I checked the language file and nothing seems to be wrong there.

did you ever edited the Swedish language file? if yes make sure you did it withe a utf-8 encoding support editor.

I don't think I ever did, I have reuploaded the file directly after extracting it with no luck

Fixed it by switching all the non-US letters with the HTML unity codes in the language file
