Countries we are able to accept and not accept?

Hi,

Not sure how to ask this, but some countries are banned to do sales with correct? Not sure if those lists, also include web hosting services. Is there a list of countries for instance since we are a US based business that we are not supposed to sell to? I thought I came across this a while back but lost that information.

Just trying to cover, to make sure we don't break any laws by selling services to a country we are not supposed to.

Thanks a bunch.

Kind Regards,

Derrick

Hey,

Nope, you are free to do business with who ever you would like. I'm also in the US and have clients in every continent. Their are a few places like Africa, and Russia where most of the fraud orders I see coming from. But I only accept PayPal as my online payment gateway. Since PayPal is a US based company as well as me, if clients are in different countries or what not ,I do care about them, but I'm not gonna to go get a different gateway so they can pay. If the clients don't mind the 3,000+ miles away from the server then they sure don't mind PayPal (thats if they are outside the United States)

No you're not. The places with whom you can transact business are often very tightly regulated, and can involve significant periods of jailtime if breached.

You need to check with your local equivalent of the home office, business link, accountant or whatever.

The US has a number of laws regarding what you can and cant sell and who to, and braking a trade-agreement is a federal offence.

Smilarly here in the UK you can go to jail for upto 10 years for trading with a country under UN sanctions and so on.

Hey,

Webhosting is not on the list. Selling nuclear weapons is...

It doesn't matter what you are selling. It's the transfer of funds to countries under sanctions. Before working for myself I used to work for a UK bank and this caused many problems. Most of them stem from the American Government list. Send your money to a country on that one and your wont get your money back :)

So, for example if you sold something to someone in a sanctioned country and you needed to give them a refund for something it would be down to your bank to make sure that they don't send the funds to a sanctioned country.

Thanks for the information!

Does anyone know if this list is available online somewhere? I probably should though still talk to someone official. Been getting more international customers, and definitely would like to know where we stand better when serving the international community.

Kind Regards,
