Installing on Sub Domain

ChrisB

Question

Hello All,

I am currently running the 15 day trial, only installed yesterday and have to say Im very pleased, its unusual I use a piece of software and am immediately happy with it out of the box but this is great so far :)

OK I have installed on http://www.mydomain.com/clientarea however I wish to use Google Checkout as a payment option and have read that the whole installation has to be behind an SSL fo it to work, so I want to move my install fromm the folder it is currently in to a sub domain on the same URL http://www.clientarea.mydomain.com, will this affect my trial license if I simply re-install on the sub domain with the same license key?

Also when you configure th software are the changes you make save in the SQL database? So for my "move" if I just point the new install to the existing database will that save me re-configuring?

Thanks in advance

Chris

You'll need to re-issue the license then, but I'm not sure if that's possible with a trial license. You can check this by going to the Client Area (https://www.whmcs.com/members/clientarea.php), choose "My Licenses and Services" and click on the trial license. If you have a button below the "License Details" with the name "Reissue License", it shouldn't be a problem. If not; create a ticket for the WHMCS licensing department.

It just saves the information to the SQL database as you described, so moving the files shouldn't be a problem (don't forget to change the WHMCS paths in the configuration.php).

Thanks for your reply :) I have just got my ssl certificate details for the sub domain so will go and have a play and see what happens ha ha ha

Thanks again

Chris

PS

Presuming none of this would be a problem if I was a "paid" member? If it is a problem anyhow lol. Just re-issue the license? More than happy with the software so if worst comes to the worst will break out the credit card :)

why install the ssl on a subdomain it will work fine with http://www.mydomain.com/clientarea and then in your whmcs admin area>general settings just complete WHMCS SSL System URL to https://www.mydomain.com/clientarea and this will activate the ssl to only areas in whmcs it is needed

Hello

I did it on a sub domain at the advice of my Support Team they said if I allocated it to the main domain then the whole site would be behind the SSL I would then have to setup a re-direct so users could navigate to the normal http pages on the site, I didn't think this would be a great idea for SEO so went down the subdomain route instead.

What I know of such things you could write on the back of a stamp so willingly took their advice rightly or wrongly lol, as mentioned I mentioned in another post I am primarily a Web & Graphic Designer the hosting for me is a necessary evil still very much learning with all aspects of this, I have been running a VPS with 8 clients on now for around 12 months but SSL and other advanced features have not been requored so far for any of them so am having to learn as I go.

I now have a deicated Server as well which is primarily for this new project as said though I am still very much learning :)

I have now setup the SSL on the sub domain so am going to have to live with it that way for now, I am going to do the re-install later today see what happens witht he license.

Thanks

Chris

Hi

Thanks for your reply, I have done a fresh install in the sub domain Im a bit confused regarding the SSL because nothing happens when I enter https://blablabla but using http all is fine, its a geotrust cert I uploaded a very quick template to the subdomain and inserted the geotrust smart icon to make sure it was working and it did return a protected status so presume everything is OK.

The install went fine it reported errors on step 4 saying the tab les already exist but allowed me to set up the administrator account and complete installation so again presuming everything is fine, the license however has suspended itself on the sub domain so off to make myself a fully paid member lol then some more testing, cant see a re-issue button anywhere in my WHMCS client panel fair enough on trial anyhow.

Thanks again

Quick update have now purchased my WHMCS license everyhting seems fine using the existing database, the only thing that was messed up was anything that was encrypted ie namecheap api access data and server passwrods etc but apart from that works fine :)

Now to finish configuring and getting everthing to work then of course customising :(
