Help!.. Affiliate not auto linked to new orders.

I hope someone out there can help us with this. I'm sure we can't be the only ones trying to get this working.

 

We have been trying to resolve this all day so far. There are loads of forum postings on this but none of the options seem to work.

 

This is how I think this should work.

 

• We have activated the affiliate system via admin
  
• Activated an affiliate client.
  

What we are trying to achieve is this:

 

1. Assign the client affiliate link so it's diverted to a particular product or product group.
   
2. So for example this URL should work right?.. http://myaccount.lanquest-hosting.net/*?aff=002&add=a&pid=39
   
3. This URL is to be directed to a particular product.
   
4. After purchasing the product, I can see the product listed in the Manage Orders page.
   
5. What I expected was for the affiliate to be linked to the order. Instead we get this at the bottom of that order on the admin side.
   

This order was not referred by an affiliate. To add an affiliate to the order, choose the affiliate from the list below.

 

 

Why?.. And what is the correct way of using the affiliate system whilst directing the affiliate URL to a product or product group?
