Sorry says "LOGIN ATTEMPT FAILED" and not PASSWORD INCORRECT

I tried to set up a server- entered in the HASH from my WHM- pasted it right in. Entered root as username. Server saved fine but when I press on the WHM button it comes up with cpanel login that says PASSWORD INCORRECT. Do I have to enter the password as well? I thought just HASH code was enough. That is not working. How do I investigate? Thanks.
