  1. sounds so easy I'll give it a go... watch this space.
  2. Hi Terry, That's exactly what I'm going to do. I just need to know whether to transfer the files and re-license (assuming I can), or just the database. Cheers
  3. Hi I have an existing install of whmcs 3.6.1 (which is paid monthly by the host as a freebie), and am in the process of transferring the domain and website etc to an alternative host. I'm going to be getting a monthly license of my own for whmcs on the new host. What would be the best way to do the whmcs transfer? Set up a new install of whmcs 3.8.1 and transfer just the database into it? Transfer the entire thing, purchase the new license, then upgrade? Something else? I only have a few clients on the existing installation, but I've spent a long time tweaking the setup and integrating it into my existing website etc. Also, there are only a few accounts on the existing host, but loads on the new host which is an amalgamation of 3 different hosting packages I had. I'd like to add them all into whmcs on the new host. Thanks
  4. Baja, I'm interested! Thanks for the info above, but I don't have SSH access as I'm on a shared server, and I suspect the majority of users are in the same situation, so if you could include the non-direct use as well in your tutorial, that'd be most appreciated.
  5. Hi, Does anyone have any answers for the post above please? Cheers Dave
  6. Hi All Having gone through this thread a couple of times, I don't think I "get it". I first installed WHMCS at V3.6.0. Then shortly after I upgraded to V3.6.1 which I'm still on. I downloaded the Installation archive (zip) from page 1 and installed it. Running the prog gave me this result... Reading through, on page 5 post 44, Nick says So I'm now looking at upgrading to V3.6.2, so I guess I need the 3.6.1.md5 checksums file? Trouble is, the system seems to be retrieveing that automatically but saying over 300 changed files... I've changed a few I think but probably not more than 10. I then downloaded the sums.3.6.1.md5 file from the server, and it now says I'm not sure what to do next... do I read it that the only file I've changed is the serverstatus.php page (which is encrypted so it can't have been me)? I know I've changed some of the template files, but they aren't showing in the Changed Files count. If so, how do I get back to a "baseline" for my setup? Would a fresh install of V3.6.2 be the best option, and then copy over the serverstatus.php page, and what would that mean for the license (which is provided by my host)? Sorry for all the questions... I can see this being a fantastic module, but I need to get it working correctly before I can rely on it. Cheers Dave
  7. Joe, I don't think you understand the circumstances in which I'm trying to use this. It is definitely NOT silly to have a domain checker without an option to order if you're trying to get your customers to understand the bigger picture for the package I'm giving them. I'll give you an example... I have a contract with a UK organisation that provides services to, let's say, small bakery businesses. I've done a deal with the UK org to provide cut price, templated websites for all their members. Remember though that they're bakers, not web designers, system managers or anything like that. Some of them haven't even touched a computer or browsed the "interweb". I need to talk them through the entire process of getting a domain name, choosing which template they want, choosing various options (contact/order forms, forums, flash animations, scrolling images etc), deciding on a hosting package, and paying for it... and all with them saying things like "what's a mouse", "I've lost my window thingy", "what's a radio button and can you get radio 1 on it?" etc. The easiest way is the way I would get my Dad or Gran to do things... make a checklist of all the options, show them on the screen what they all do one by one, allow them to pick an available domain name (without confusing text around the screen telling them to order this and choose that etc), and get them to tick the options they like and write down the available domain name that they've chosen. Then when I eventually send them to the Direct Cart order form in WHMCS, it's not as daunting as they have an ordered ticklist of what to put in and where. It might seem long winded but older people and the less computer-savvy much prefer this approach I've found. The demo I posted above is only a basic one... the actual one I'm using has the Yes and No in green and red respectively and bolded etc to make it very clear and it's generally tidied up. HTH Dave
  8. Yes Joe123, something like that Mike, I think you misunderstood me... I HAVE a solution... Unfortunately the site I'm actually using it on is a closed site so I can't show you it in real life, but check out the following link to see what I mean domaincheck test page/. If you want the script so you can do the same thing, see post 6 above. Cheers Dave
  9. Could you elaborate please? I've been with FH/UKreg for .co.uk domains (and enom for .coms) for years now, but if there's anyone better, I'd be happy to swap. Cheers Dave
  10. Hi Mike, The page in the link was fine, but I didn't want the results to be shown as part of the order process. So for example, if you click your link, then put in domain1234.asia, then click Go, all I wanted to see was the "Congratulations! domain1234.asia is available!"... none of the box above with the captcha image, and none of the "more choices" stuff, and certainly not the "Order Now" button. All I wanted apart from that is a "Go back a page" link to go back to the page I'd embedded the code into. My customers are basically idiots when it comes to the Internet (Think of putting your Nan or Grandad in front of the screen and telling them to sign up for a web hosting service... "how do you use a mouse dear?" sort of thing) I have a page with detailed instructions (but they boil down to)... 1. Get a domain name (this is where the embedded bit goes) 2. Choose how to pay. 3. Choose a template (from a load of screen grabs). Clicking on a screen grab takes them via a direct link to the order page for that template, and that's where they enter their domain name again, safe in the knowledge that it's available. Does that make it any clearer? Regards Dave
  11. Got a solution at last using a 3rd party script to do the simple domain checking stuff... http://www.3ascripts.co.uk/whois/index.htm Thanks for your help anyway Mike, hope the brain isn't so grumpy this morning Cheers Dave
  12. I tried taking out the method="post" bit but that didn't seem to have an effect? I think the problem may not be solvable as the query goes to domainchecker.php which is encrypted, but I don't know enough to know for sure. My ultimate goal is so when the customer clicks the "Go" button, they are sent to a new page that simply has "Congratulations, domain.com is available" or "Sorry, that name is taken, please try again", and a Back button. Trouble is I can't see how the ordering part can be taken out of that page unless the domainchecker.php is amended in some way, or an alternative domainchecker.php file is written, netiher of which I'm capable of Ever hopeful though that Mike or anyone else can help! Cheers Dave
  13. Thanks Mike... oh no wait, we've already done that bit Although your post pointed much further than I had ever got so far, There's just one bit I'd like to change if possible... The code you pointed to works perfectly, except I don't want to give them the option to be sent to the order page at that point. Rather, I'd either like a popup, or them sent to another page simply with the "Congratulations! mydomainname.com is available!" statement, and maybe a back button (which I can do). The point of this dumbing down is that my customers generally don't know their mouse from their elbow, and I need to make it as easy as possible for them during the order phase. Is there a way of parsing out the "Domain available" or "Domain taken" statements, without going to the domainchecker.php order page? Thanks again Dave
  14. Hi I'm a bit lost... I'm trying to make a page that I can either integrate into an existing site, or that I can link to within the WHMCS area that my potential customers can simply look up a domain name to see if it is available. The idea behind it is that I'm catering for a user base that is fairly computer illiterate, and I'm talking them through the process a step at a time before they actually get to the ordering page. One of the steps is "Choose a domain name", where I talk about what a domain name is, what it does etc, and I want to have an area or link to the domain checker page but I don't want any of the other links that WHMCS has on this particular page. What the customer then does is find an available domain name, then write it down on a checklist I've already prepared, so that once they've gone through the rest of the checks, they click on a link which takes them to the product cart and they then complete it in one go. Can this be done, and if so what templates/php pages need to be changed or added? I'd appreciate a fuller answer please... I understand the basics of smarty and php but not enough to get this sorted. Thanks in advance Dave
  15. Another vote for including UKreg... Their API info can be found here http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/resellers/package/api/ Thanks
  16. Hi Rob, That sounds a great idea. Would you mind sharing the script/code for your "reality check"? Cheers Dave
  17. Thanks for the reply. So what happens then? Do I just cancel it at Enom? The customer shouldn't get an email saying it's renewed for 2 years from this date, and that's plainly wrong! Apart from anything, there's no mention of changing the IPSTAG, so the transfer will fail anyway. I see you're in the UK... how do you deal with this sort of scenario? Thanks Dave
  18. Hi All, I'm setting up WHMCS at the moment, and I've run into a problem. I've just placed a new test order with my system and selected "I want to transfer my domain". The domain in question is a .co.uk domain which expires in May 2009. The system however seems to want to renew it from today... the email I got was as follows: ***************** Thank you for your domain transfer order. Your order has been received and we have now initiated the transfer process. The details of the domain purchase are below: Domain: domain.co.uk Registration Length: 2 Year/s Transfer Price: £0.00 GBP Renewal Price: £20.00 GBP Next Due Date: 18/04/2010 **************** How do I stop this happening? Surely the system should check renewal dates, and if more than 60 days in the future just add it to the account rather than trying to renew it? Also, another question... my choosing the Transfer option, is it an automated process of some kind that the system initiates a transfer from the customer's old registrar to the one I've set up in WHMCS (Enom in this case)? I had an email (as the admin now rather than the customer) saying "The order placed for domain.co.uk has received its first payment and has been automatically submitted to the registrar" What actually happens in this scenario? Thanks for any help. Dave
  19. Thanks for the reply. So what is the point of the WHMCS settings? Should I just leave them all blank except for the WHM package name, and set the package up in WHM? Thanks Dave
  20. Thanks for the reply. Do I have to duplicate the WHM package details in the WHMCS product details? I guess I put the WHM Package Name in the corresponding box in the Module Settings tab including the account name (for ex. "master_freepackage") but do I have to enter the Web Space Quota, Bandwidth Limit, Max FTP accounts etc? Also, if for example I put 300Megs of Web Space Quota in WHM but 500Megs in WHMCS, which one wins? Can I override one with the other? Thanks Dave
  21. Thanks for the quick reply. I've sussed the feature list into the WHM package, but my package in WHM includes my master account name, eg. master_freepackage. I don't want that visible to the public. Can I reference the package name "freepackage" in WHMCS or does it have to be the full "master_freepackage"? Thanks Dave
  22. Hi I intend giving away a few basic free accounts to colleagues as well as having the hosting sales, but I don't want these free accounts to have all the cPanel features. For example I only want them to see Webalizer stats and not awstats. I've set up a Feature Package in cPanel, but I can't find a way to get WHMCS to use that package when setting up an account. Can anyone shed light on it please? Thanks Dave
