WHMCS broken after upgrade attempt

OK, this was eventually fixed by our hosting company who did a manual update for us. -
I tried to upgrade from 8.20 to 8.21 using the auto updater but it was interrupted with a message about time limit or something (sorry, I can't remember exactly what it said.) Now WHMCS doesn't work, every page is completely blank, not even error messages. I have upgraded WHMCS several times before with auto-updater and never had any problems before. What should I do?
