Help running php before the tpl file

Howdy Guys,

I'm for the best practice of running some php code that is not inside the tpl file. I have had a few things I'd like to do, lately I would like to 'slugify' the product name in the cart - I cannot figure out how to do this, and I would prefer not to do it in the .tpl files.

It doesn't seem right to put php into those files.

So I am looking how to do this. Not just on the cart files, but anywhere - what is the best practice to adding php to my site?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With Thanks

james
