Licensing Addon Questions

St. Anger

Question

Hello,

I'm currently using iono for my licensing needs but am not happy with their lack of support and software updates (i.e. hardly any at all), plus they limit the total number of licenses that you can sell, which a big turn-off. I would like to switch to WHMCS and use its licensing module, but I have a couple questions:

1. Can you set up "versions" for licenses/software that you sell? For example, in iono I can set up different versions of software in my admin control panel. When a license key is validated, it checks if there is a newer version available for that particular software, and if there is I can then display a message to the user telling them to upgrade.

2. Is an iono to WHMCS converter being worked on? I read somewhere in the forum here that a PHPaudit converter was being worked on, which is from the same company, SolidPHP.

3. Why isn't there a demo for the licensing module? :P

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in WHMCS. In answer to your questions:

1. You can setup multiple downloads, one for each version of the software you release and have those displayed to clients in the client area. However, for displaying if a newer version of the software is available, we would recommend you create a file seperately to contain the latest version number and just run a curl request or file_get_contents to that url from your app.

2. Unfortunately there is not an importer for Iono. We can however provide the code to the PHPAudit one for you to have a look at adapting it for Iono.

3. The module is available in the online demo - you can choose Licensing on the Module Settings tab of a product to see the product options offered and go to Utilities > Addon Modules > Licenses Manager for the key management area.

Sounds good, guess I'll do that.

Hmm, somehow I completely missed it when I was checking out the demo. If there's one thing I don't like about WHMCS it's that the menus in the admin interface seem pretty cluttered and confusing; however, with so many different options, I can't really think of a better way if displaying them all.

Thanks for the help, I'll be purchasing a license within the next few days. :)
