Wring user/pass/hash, wrong IP address, blocked ports, WHM setup to check referrer IPs which can break stuff. The error coming back from WHM is: <h1>Brute Force Protection</h1> This account is currently locked out because a <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brute_force_attack'>brute force attempt</a> was detected. Please wait 10 minutes and try again. Attempting to login again will only increase this delay. If you frequently experience this problem, we recommend having your username changed to something less generic. You would need to check with cpanel about this if it continues. Go into the brute force section of WHM and unblock your IP. While you're there, install configserver firewall that plugs into WHMCS.
