PayPal Subscriptions & setup fees

I've set up WHMCS to charge a setup fee for a term, say monthly, plus the recurring charge. So, as an example, if a customer chose to pay monthly they would have a $10 setup fee, and subscribe to $20/mo ($30 total on first transaction and $20/mo thereafter). However, even though the WHMCS invoice is generated correctly, when a user goes to pay with PayPal it only says $20/mo and only charges $20 at the time of payment - no setup fee mentioned or charged. The transaction goes through, but then there is a balance on the account in the amount of the setup fee. Am I configuring something wrong or is this just not available when you use PayPal? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Answer from support:

With PayPal, their subscribe links don't seem to accept trial periods when a modify command is sent and you've enabled modify in Config > Payment Gateways. Seems to be either a limitation or bug in their system so will have to turn that off.

I tried many different things, but I could never get PayPal to address the trial period when coming from WMHCS. Only the recurring fee. If you have any suggestions of something to try, I'm all for it.

Thanks
