BlogsAbout
Do the existing paypal subscriptions that are tied to accounts imported from WHM tie back to the new clients created in WHMCS?
0 chickendippers
How were the subscription created in the first place? I assume you're migrating to WHMCS from another system?
0 BlogsAbout
They were created just using paypal buttons on a page.. e.g. sign up for this package. It then created a subscription, tech was notified and account created using WHM. I guess I am wondering how WHMCS ties subscriptions to clients so if its manual i can at least go through clients and put in a subscription number/start date etc or if it works by their email? TIA
0 chickendippers
Did you set the PayPal IPN to callback to a specific URL when you created them? If you did, then you can get a redirect script by contacting support. Then all you need to is enter the subscription id into the product page. If you didn't set the IPN callback you'll need to cancel all subscription and have your customers re-create them when WHMCS generated their next invoice.
0 BlogsAbout
No I didn't because it was a "manual" process, there was no billing system other than a paypal button for a subscription. I have an excel spreadsheet with all the account names and their subscription id so i am wondering if i can just manually put that info into their accounts.

You can but the paypal subscriptions currently setup do not have the callback (ipn) set for whmcs (and non setup at all), you can't change this with current subscriptions, you'll need to cancel all subscriptions, then when whmcs generates a customers invoice, they can create a new paypal subscription, which will mark the invoice as paid, and each time the subscription is paid it will automatically "call" whmcs and mark it as paid. The only other way would be for you to manually mark the invoice paid when you receive an subscription payment. This will be the same situation with any billing system you go with. Hope the above made sense, half asleep at the moment.
0 BlogsAbout
Thanks for the sleepy response So if i understand you correctly when a sub is generated, paypal tags it with where it came from ? (IPN) and then knows that when a payment is made that it should autocall back. If a sub was made without this IPN then iwhen a payment is made it will not autocall anyone?
0 HostOrca
Basically yes. When a customers pays the invoice by selecting paypal subscription one of the variables whmcs sends is the ipn address, paypal stores this info, and everytime they take the subscription payment, paypal send a confirmation to the stored address, whmcs then marks the invoice as paid. If a sub was made without an ipn, it will not call anyone? Correct. Right, I'm off to bed (if I make it). 0 chickendippers
Meh, we managed it. And as WHMCS sends invoices and reminders automatically it's not too hard.
