Can a customer change their PayPal credit card while paying new invoice?

Hi,

I'm not sure what the best way to do this is and would appreciate your opinion. I have a client who has a PayPal subscription from before I started using WHMCS. He has a new credit card number so he wants to update it. I had been planning on canceling his subscription and generating an invoice so that a new subscription will be started and monitored by WHMCS, so I thought this would be a good time to do it.

Should I cancel his existing PayPal subscription and get him to log in at PayPal and update his credit card first? Then send him a new invoice to create a new subscription? Is there a way to have him update his credit card on his account while paying the new invoice in one step? I know customers paying an invoice must log in if they have an account with PayPal but I'm not sure what that next screen is (a confirmation, change details, etc.). Is he able to change his PayPal account while paying a new invoice?

If the client logs into paypal, adds the new credit card, (leaving his old credit card there for the moment), then if he selects the subscription in paypal, he can change which card is used. Once he has done this he can delete the old credit card.

Subscriptions only get cancelled by paypal if he deletes a credit card that has subscriptions associated with it.

Thanks for replying. I'm fine with starting a new subscription for him and the fact that he needs to update his credit card makes it a perfect time to get his new subscription started under WHMCS. I would think he would have to log in to PayPal and update his credit card. I will cancel his current subscription and then generate an invoice to create a new subscription via WHMCS. When he goes to pay it, he can log in with his PayPal password and then start the new subscription. I was just hoping that he could change his credit card at this stage instead of forcing him to go to PayPal first and change his credit card before receiving an invoice and having to pay it. Clients don't understand that they have a PayPal subscription. They think I can just change their credit card number for them.
