risrik
Hi, I was wondering why a true summary including tax is never shown to the customer during the order process. It does if the customer already has an account and logs in (because then it knows how to charge the tax). But for most customers, they place the order, see how much the total is (without any taxes), click Checkout, and THEN enter their information on the last page of the checkout process. Then if they click 'Complete Order', the order is made and they're transferred to PayPal to pay. PayPal then shows the real total with the tax included. For example, a customer chooses a $10/month plan. The 'Order Summary' shows the plan they've chosen and $10 today with $10 recurring. No tax has been added yet. They click Checkout and then have to enter their information to create an account. If they click 'Complete Order', the order is created and the emails are sent without them ever seeing that 5% GST was added and that they're actually paying $10.50. I noticed that one of the templates adds a line that reads "Tax may be charged depending upon the state and country selections you make. Click to recalculate after making your choices." with an Update button. The update button however, completes the order just like clicking the Complete Order button! Why does the customer never get the chance to actually see what their charge (with taxes) is before accepting? Why isn't the page about entering their personal information included BEFORE the order summary so that tax can be calculated and displayed correctly? Am I missing something here?
risrik
If they choose the country but not fill in everything, and then click the Update button, the page will reload informing the customer of what fields they missed (name, address, etc.), but the totals will update with the proper tax and real total. If they just move along in the order process though, the last thing they do is enter their information which I think is backwards. I don't understand why there isn't a final confirmation page that actually provides the totals and taxes based on the customer's real information they enter to create an account. Am I mistaken? The fact that nobody is responding lends me to believe that I am so I'd appreciate your thoughts.
openmind
You are correct or until the customer creates the account. This is simply because at that point in the order process WHMCS does not the state/country until the user either fills them in or logs into an account. Only after it knows these factors can it decide whether to show tax or not.
risrik
Thanks for responding. I hope a later version includes a final confirmation page. New customers are told their recurring charge in the order summary but when they actually have to pay, it's different (taxes included). Some people are stupid and don't realize that there might be tax. The 'Cart' order form template provides the 'Update' button under the personal information section however it submits the form and confirms the order if all entries were entered correctly. The other order form templates (Default, Boxes, Single Page) don't provide this update button at all. So, I think I will have to use the Cart order form and see if I can fix the update button to always update the order summary and NOT submit the form.
dmc_ss
Maybe this needs to be considered a bug then??
risrik
Good point. I just tested it again and if all entries are entered correctly, clicking the Update button submits the order which it should not. I'll add a post in the Bug forum. Thanks for your help!
