sac9829
Hi Currently looking at using WHMCS and wanted to know if you make changes to the system what happens to these when an update is done? The reason I ask is because we would be looking at getting custom changes made and don't want to lose these everytime a new version comes out.
chickendippers
Well if the file you had modified is changed in the new version, then you'll loose your modifications - obviously.
sac9829
Can it be done in a module system so this isn't the case? (How do they upgrade custom WHMCS installs)
chickendippers
We had Matt do us a custom modification, if we upgrade we'll need to pay to have it done again. Whilst I'd love to not have to, it's fair enough.
sac9829
Doesn't system like the best solution for security and wanting new features etc.
chickendippers
How does that affect security?
sac9829
If security issues are found in the code then it could be an issue.
chickendippers
Well as modifications can only be made by the WHMCS team I still don't see how that's a problem? I seem to remember that when bugs have been found in the past they are patched pretty quickly.
vmukdaniel
You could use a file comparison tool to find our where the changes have been made so you can go thorugh and manually make the changes again, the TPL files don't usually change that much.
sac9829
Yes I think this is what we will do.
