Migration queries

dmc_ss

Question

Hello,

I have around 20 clients currently running with Helm3. We need to upgrade our server and in line with what I wish to start using WHMCS for billing. I understand about turning off Helm billing and extra features etc. that's no problem.

I am also considering using NetEarthOne as domain registrar. I have not used a reseller account with any registrar so this is somewhat new to me. I currently manage domains manually.

Should I move domains to NEO or leave them where they are? What's the best option. Should I leave the transfer until they become due for renewal etc?

In order to migrate to WHMCS I assume I would just add my existing clients using the Manual Client Entry process specifiying the current Helm plans in the appropriate places. I understand about unticking generate email and invoice options and setting the next due date etc.

My query really is how does the domain link in with NEO? Do I set the Domain Registration option to None, Register or Transfer option? And I do manually transfer the domain to NEO first using NEO's control panel etc etc.

The next issue is that the Helm system will already be setup and working. In other words WHMCS will not acutally need to provision anything within Helm at this stage - what do I need to do to stop WHMCS from trying to provision but still allow the use of Helm afterwards?

What happens when the Transfer option is used with NEO?

As far as NEO goes, I assume I need to have a + balance in my account and NEO will bill me their base rate for all the domains on my account. What happens if the account balance is zero and a domain is ordered through WHMCS?

I guess what I'm looking for is a step by step guide to migrating to WHMCS with a domain registrar!

Thanks in advance,

David.

You will need to transfer the domains to NEO. You will need to continue managing domains not at NEO manually.

When we switched provider we just manually transferred the domain when the customer ordered renewal (as long as it was 7 days in advance of the expiry date).

When your account balance is $0 and a registration is attempted that the order will be placed in "locking processing" status until you add some more funds.

Thanks for the reply, however you didn't mention the acutal process. I need to know do I transfer the domain to NEO first or do I setup the domain in WHMCS and select the Transfer option.

What do I do after adding the domain to WHMCS. I need to know the relationship between the two systems before I start adding domains and\or working inside NEO.

Cheers, David.

Well as you want to charge your customers for the domain name renewal you should add all the domain names to WHMCS and choose "Email" as the registrar. This will send you an email when the customer orders a renewal so you can initiate the transfer process outside WHMCS.

Once the domain has transferred to NEO you'd just change the registrar for that domain in WHMCS.
