migrating existing opensrs clients?

wyatt121

Question

Hi,

I really want to purchase your software, but have a question about how to migrate my current clients into the software. We basically have no billing client records, but have about 3,000 opensrs domain clients. How do I get the info from opensrs and import into your billing software? If I'm unable to import, how is a current client of mine supposed to renew their domain through your software without me having their billing or opensrs login info?

Regards,

Wyatt

Hi,

OpenSRS is very unusual in requiring that an individual domain username and password be known in order to manage that domain. Just being the reseller that owns it is not enough. For that reason, adding existing OpenSRS domains is very difficult - you either have to update the username & password to what WHMCS would want them to be for each domain or you are unable to view/edit nameservers & whois info for that domain in WHMCS. Note that while you can't view and update those details, WHMCS can still submit automated renewal requests for the domain.

So if a client does have an account in my WHMCS installation, they are still able to renew their existing domain with Opensrs through WHMCS.

This might be a stupid question, but how about those of us who are able to retrieve domain username/passwords from the OpenSRS system?

This option isn't particularly well advertised, but it is available if you're willing to sign an extra contract.

My understanding is that the username/password cannot be retrieved through OpenSRS' API though, only through the RSP web interface, but automating it shouldn't be too difficult.

I've only got a few hundred domains, but this is more or less a showstopper for me.
