handsonwebhosting
Hey folks, Been a while since there's been a post in The Lounge, so I figured I'd pop my head in and let you know that I'm on my deck smoking a J.A.R. Cigar and enjoying the 67 deg weather in Omaha Not a bad cigar for a daily smoke (sure beats a Dark Sumatra on price).
handsonwebhosting
So today I decided to try a different cigar. I've had the Excaliburs for years and the 1066's which are just wonderful smokes. Today, I decided to try an Excibur Black Label. I haven't tried them before, but it is a fairly nice smoke. A little bold at the beginning, but the flavor grows on you quickly. Good smoke, it's going on my list for my next shipment of cigars next month.
handsonwebhosting
So today, another wonderful 72 deg day with a slight breeze is a perfect day to sit on the deck with a computer and a cigar, so out the doors I went and with a new cigar today. I finally broke into my reserve stash of Partagas Black Label. It's a strong cigar, sometimes too strong for people. Some of my friends in years past have commented that it actually makes them a little light headed when they smoke the Partagas that I keep here. None the less, it's a beautiful day, it's Friday, and there's only 2 open helpdesk tickets (which others are responding to). Live help is dead, nobody wants to chat with us, so it's a good day Get outside folks, get a notebook, sit outside and enjoy the day - summer will be over soon!
handsonwebhosting
I guess this is my own little personal cigar tracking post hehe Today is another 75 deg day with a slight hint of humidity in Omaha Nebraska. Having been up for the past 59 hours working on servers (except for a 2 hour nap this morning between 7am and 9am), a little fresh air and a cigar was just what the doctor ordered. I want to go to sleep, but my body won't let me, so I continue to work from the back deck on the house with a cigar in hand. Today's brand is more of the same - Jose Gener Hoyo de Monterey. Very similar to Excaliburs with a light Cameron wrapper. Figuring I'd be here for at least an hour before the gardner shows up to trim the trees etc I lit up a Churchhill. I've got about 3 inches left on it, and still no gardner! Looks like I may just have to light up another and grab some more Coke while I'm at it
ihostgreen
Conor, am loving these posts bud! Well here in London today.... It was slightly warm and humid spent all day in the office of my day job! Rather boring but managed to get some "extra work" done which was a bonus. So since your cigar connoisseur what you recommend for a first timer? And by that I mean first time smoker not even cigarettes... Any suggestions? Niall...
handsonwebhosting
Hey Niall, I used to live in Ireland, so I understand how the weather is over there in your area. Thankfully Dublin never reached into the digits that London did, but nothing beats a "wind burn" at the beach rather than a "sun burn" For someone who hasn't smoked, you'll want to find a very light cigar. If you're a flavor lover, see about getting one of the vanilla or chocolate flavored cigars. They're an ideal way to break into a habit that you'll find yourself spending $400/month on I've smoked a pipe and cigar for probably 15 years at this stage and usually go for a very bold full body cigar. The stronger the better. One of the true "tricks" to evaluating a good cigar is the smoke from the cigar. A light white smoke usually means a very "airy" smoke and in some circles is also considered a "cheap cigar". Swisher Sweets are probably the most popular "entry" cigar in the world, but I personally get sick even just smelling them. Cigar smoke and cigarette smoke is very different. You'll find people who don't like cigarette smoke will tollerate cigars or a pipe because of the aroma, and that's really what you're after. Granted, having been a smoker of cigarettes for years, I do inhale, but most cigar smokers do not. I've seen the "body" of a cigar (how heavy the smoke is) compared to that of tea and coffee etc. A light body would be like Tea with Sugar and Milk. A medium body would be like a coffee, and a full body cigar would be a rich espresso. So you'll want to go with the light ones initially. A good introductory smoke would be by Macanudo. Cigars are like wines and other such treasures in which the region of the world that the tobaco is from plays a very big part in how the cigar tastes. Just like wine, you have good years and bad years. And just becuase the wine says it's from France or Italy, that doesn't mean it's good! I'd highly recommend visiting a local cigar shop (not a street corner shop) where you can go through their humidor and actually see and smell the various types. Hope that helps a little. I'm always here to help people shave off years off their life by smoking tobaco products (or at least I'll be here until I kick the bucket myself!)

handsonwebhosting
hehe.. need to pick up Golf so you have a few hours to walk around the park with a stogie and claim you only smoke on the course That's how it starts Today, more of the same.. J.F.R.'s, by the same makers as the J.A.R's.. darker wrapper, spicy taste, very harsh taste when it's re-lit. But it's Friday Cigar in one hand, notebook on the arm of the chair and a Crown & Coke in the other hand. (I'm typing with my nose <G>)
Zorro67
Works for me. Used to smoke cigars around the poker table (not a connisseur), but most everyone is a non- these days. @firstpro, my recommednation. Don't touch cigarettes, they cost you a fortune, with no ROI, except for the first one in the morning - Note to self: How politically incorrect is this post? Don't know and don't care. Only 8 hrs to 'single-malt' time
handsonwebhosting
Politically incorrect Yeah, it seems the entire world is cracking down on smokers. California tried to pass a law last year (and two years ago) that would place a 500% tax on all tobaco products. 500% !!!!! Talk about an overkill. Especially for someone that smokes cigars on a daily basis (2 or 3 a day - worse than cigarettes)! I have a firm rule though that no smoke is in my house. Truck and Outside, no problem. Car and house - off limits
ihostgreen
I am a whiskey man, so would cigars and whiskey go well?
handsonwebhosting
Sure they can Cigars and wine, cigars and coniac, cigars and whiskey.. cigars and milk if that's your liking I not really done too much on the whiskey pairing, but there's a few sites out there that give some recommendations. Have a google search for "cigars and whiskey compliment" and you'll see a number of articles written on it. I didn't see any sites geared specifically for it (unlike wine and cigar sites). I'm an Irish wiskey fan (Paddy, Bushmills and Jameson), and a number of single malt scotches and of course the Burbons. Get your hands on some Single Barrel Burbons and it'll knock your socks off. Even a Single Barrel Wild Turkey opens a whole new flavor to their wiskey. Like anything else, enjoy in excess ---- Today, I'm off to the local cigar shop to pick up a new box of cigars. Not sure yet what I'm getting, but I'll post an update here later tonight/tomorrow with what I settled on
handsonwebhosting
More of the same. Just completed setting up a new server monitoring program and enjoying it's rewards almost within an hour of final completion on one of the servers I had done. (Zabbix if you're interested). So now, I sit with cigar in hand browsing through WHMCS Forums and some other general forums I monitor each day - so far so good.
