hostricity
Does anyone have any data on whether using multiple processors such as Google Checkout and PayPal, etc. in addition to a standard gateway like CDG or Authorize.net causes more sales to be completed? I'm asking because the transaction fees and discount rates are typically based on how much money you process through the processor - the higher the volume, the lower the rate. So, if using multiple payment processors doesn't result in more sales completed, seems to me you would want to stick with one processor. xperience
I never understand this. I've been to a few sites where when you get to the checkout you're offered the choice of paying through google, paypal, et al - I just want to pay with my credit card - I don't care which payment processor you use!! We personally only offer one (Protx) which does everything we need. I can see the advantage of having a backup in case your main processor goes down however.
uhhosting
Some people prefer PayPal. Some don't. Some people never buy anything online with a credit or debit card and thus want to see a cheque or bank transfer option. If you want to accept credit / debit card, you ideally should have a backup gateway incase the primary fails. ProtX have had numerous outages over the years, some lasting many hours. We use ProtX for primary payments. WorldPay for backup. WorldPay FuturePay for recurring. PayPal as an alterantive. Cheque and BACs. Works very well.
