vs AWBS

Helheim

Question

I'm looking for a billing system and it appears WHMCS and AWBS are two of the best out there. Can you tell me the advantages of WHMCS over AWBS? I plan to use it with DirectAdmin. I'm from Canada so the ability to work with registrars that do .ca domain names is a plus too.

Thanks

AWBS which we liked alot in the intial plan to go with software for billing but disliked the templating system since it has to be built into our site

here with whmcs it has similar flow... and again you can integrate in far better way, so went with it

Hi Helheim,

I didnt answer your question on the AWBS forum, so Ill put my 2 cents in here for you :)

AWBS is good, their template and upgrading is a pain in the a*s, they should at some point be gong over to smarty templating, but this has been promised for some time.

WHMCS has the same upgrade issues, for instance, you need to make sure that any changes made in actionhooks.php are not overwritten when you upload the upgrade (just picking on one file as I saw this problem last night) so you need to be aware of changes you have made. However, WHMCS already uses Smarty so you have a lot more to work with and can make your site very clean, simplistic and pretty.

As for modules, I am not up to speed on all the different modules that are available for each product, you just need to look into that.

I find both Admin interfaces easy to use and operate.

So if you are a good at designing a pretty site (or you employ one), want more customisation from a design perspective (with less greif), then WHMCS is the way to go.

Kind regards,

Chris

AWBS invoices for each service separately, even if due on the same day. This was one of the primary factors that drove us to migrate to WHMCS.

Say you have a customer with 4 separate services that he purchased the same day. In WHMCS, when renewal comes around, the customer gets a single invoice for all four services. In AWBS, the customer gets four separate invoices. It's very confusing and annoys customers.

They've promised to eventually go to statement billing, where you'll still have the multiple invoices, but a statement will combine them into one payable document. I waited around for as long as I could, and bailed because they couldn't get it done timely. (I spent 3.75 years using AWBS.)

The one thing I like about AWBS is you get the free eNom reseller account but other than that sounds like WHMCS is the way to go.

As chickendippers said, you get a DirectI reseller account with WHMCS--but look, don't base your opinion on a domain reselling account. Unless you're selling thousands of domains (and if you are, you wouldn't need the account that is offered with WHMCS or AWBS) there just isn't much money in it. Base you decision on the functionality of the script, not the freebies that come with it.

That's true you have a good point. I was leaning towards the eNom one as it also has .ca names and being from Canada that is important to me; however, the functionality of the product should come before that.

Thanks.
