WHMCS Overage Billing: Do Configurable Options Add to or Override Disk and Bandwidth Limits?

Recommended Posts

WHMCS 8.13.1 uses configurable options named exactly Disk Space and Bandwidth to override the product's soft limits for overage billing—not to add to them.

For example, if a hosting product has a 10 GB soft disk limit and the client's Disk Space configurable option is set to 20 GB, overage billing starts only when usage exceeds 20 GB.

If you want additive behavior (e.g., base 10 GB + extra 5 GB = 15 GB), WHMCS's built-in overage configurable options do not directly provide that. You would need to set the configurable option to the combined total or implement custom logic to calculate the total limit.

Thanks for clarifying that, Vaishnaviiii — the override point is easy to miss if you assume the option adds on top of the base limit. One practical tip is to word the option clearly on the order page, for example stating the total limit that will apply, so clients are not surprised by a bill later. It is also worth testing with a test order first and checking the generated invoice, since that quickly shows whether the limit behaved as expected. Did you end up setting the option to the combined total you wanted, or did you go with a custom approach for additive limits?
