Hide PROJECTS menu item IF no active/past projects

Hi All,

Does anyone know how to hide the Projects menu item from the main navigation IF no projects (active or closed) are associated with the client?

I assume there is some hook magic, but thus far I have only worked out how to hide a menu item - not hide one under certain conditions!
