Which VPS to use? Proxmox versus Xen versus VMware - need tightly coupled WHMCS integration

Recommended Posts

I need to migrate about 20 VMs from a vanilla KVM environment with no management tools to something WHMCS friendly.

Therefor I need a recommendation which cost effective Virtualisation software / stack / module to use with WHMCS.

Background

10 years ago I got my hands wet with Virtualization by using XEN. Although it got me started, what really frustrated me was the difficulty in getting solid information. I had to Google to death. At the time WHMCS integration wasn't even considered.

From there our company moved onto VMware. This was much easier to drive than XEN but two issues remained:

1. VMware is for enterprise businesses, now low cost ISPs who need to squeeze every cent out of a system.
2. For years WHMCS was lacking and the few modules that appeared on the market seems incomplete.

I won't go back to VMware because of it's price.

During our VMware era I research a lot and found that Proxmox seemed the way to go because of it's tight WHMCS integration via Modules Gardens.

But, I would like to hear an objective opinion from the community. Please don't promote your product but rather give me advice on something that works with WHMCS that is close to cheap or free.

Things which are a must:

  • Automatic signup
  • Client side OS installation
  • Traffic overuse

Things that would be nice:

  • SSH key generation
  • Reverse (PTR) management
  • Client side redeployment
  • Client side backup control

thanks
