Creation of new contact in admin -> loses initial checkboxes

When setting up a new contact in WHMCS admin, I select one or more checkboxes to set the preferences for "Email Notifications". On saving the contact their details are saved, except all "Email Notifications" checkboxes are now blank. When I re-check these and save WHMCS picks up the settings and the checkboxes remain checked.
