domain transfer rules

Hi,

 

I have seen this before when ordering my own domain -- where some registrars advertise saying:

 

If i have 4 months left in my present domain registration it will automatically add on when i transfer the domain to their registrar.

 

would someone please enlighten me?

basically exactly what they state there.

 

Example. Your domain is set to expire feb 10, 2008 (so you have 2 months left on your current registraiton with registrar a)

 

If you transfer your domain from registrar a to registrar b, (you are purchaseing a year at the new registrar) then your renewal date will be 1 year 2 months in the future so your next renewal date will be somewhere like April 10, 2009.

 

Basically you dont lose any current time you have on the books and you pick up a full year registration at the new registrar.
