The Problem:

This error shows in your activity log and you are not getting daily "WHMCS Cron Job Activity" email

Admin Email Notification Sending Failed - The following From address failed: hosting@example.com : Called Mail() without being connected (Subject: WHMCS Cron Job Activity)

You have checked these places and all seems right in the world

Utilities > Activity Log and ensure you see a number of entries beginning "Cron Job" each day. The final entry every day should be "Cron Job: Completed".

Setup > Staff Management > Administrator Users > edit-button for the full administrator > email address is valid

Setup > Staff Management > Administrator Users > edit-button for the full administrator > Assigned Departments > Enable Ticket Notifications (checked)

Setup > Staff Management > Administrator Roles > Full Administrator > Email Messages > System Emails (checked)

Setup > General Settings > Mail > If using SMTP, You have verified an email account exists and all settings are good for your host

I tried just about everything and found that the database just had a bad value stored or whatever else masks itself in this manner

In order to fix:

Short Version:

Just unset the admin role email report and the admin user email report saved then reset

Long Version:

go to

Setup > Staff Management > Administrator Users > edit-button for the full administrator > Assigned Departments > Enable Ticket Notifications (checked)

change to unchecked and save then go to

Setup > Staff Management > Administrator Roles > Full Administrator > Email Messages > System Emails (checked)

change to unchecked and save

go back and recheck both and save > works!

I tested by just navigating to example.com/admin/cron.php
