Upgrade from 4 to 5.1.2 stable version

Has anyone attempted it ? Upgrade steps specified in documentation are not so descriptive.

 

Following has succeeded.

1. Putting Install file from latest version and running it directly.

Result: My version reflects 5.1.2 on the admin panel. So, I believe my installation process completed as desired.

 

Problem:

1. Since, I had only copied Install folder, thus, look and feel and features are still as per the old 4.x version.

2. I tried following steps:

- My original Parent folder name = PMMMM , admin(sub folder) = XXXX

- I tried replacing the parent folder with the new version.

Error = All pages were blank.

 

3. I tried replacing only the admin folder (swapping with MXXXXXX , then my admin panel will not work. Blank.

 

4. I tried taking new templates only. To at least reflect new look and feel. However, the moment i log as end user i.e. clientarea.php, then again it shows me the blank pages.

 

In nutshell, I panel reflects 5.1, but I am unable to use any of the new features.

Please advise which folders to replace or I need to update all old files manually?
