A few questions before I dive in...

openmind

Question

OK. I've been on the hunt now for a decent billing system to manage our companies hosting/domains/servers clients and reading through the forum and site it looks like WHMCS could fit the bill.

Here's our background....

Hosting

We currently supply shared/reseller hosting packages on Windows servers. We use Helm v3 for the management of the accounts and also billing. We are also going to be offering Nix hosting through cPanel and this should be live shortly. We have around 30 resellers, 600 users and about 900 domains.

Domains

We currently use AWBS for domain management/billing. We have an Enom ETP account and are also Nominet members. Currently managing about 700+ registrations

Servers

Not much to elaborate on here really apart from the fact we use the Helm billing system to bill for the servers. Only a handful of clients at the moment.

We need a system that we can install on one domain and manage all the above areas from one location. Here's the questions:

1 - Imports: I see there is an AWBS import script which is great but is there a way to import/match up the Helm accounts?

2 - We use Protx for our gateway, how does WHMCS handle recurring billing? Does the client have to login each month to pay?

3 - Does the Nominet module work flawlessly and is able to manage all the appropriate Nominet commands?

4 - On the subject of Nominet, are plans in place for when they finally release their new XML interface?

5 - eNom: as with Nominet, is there full domain management facilities?

6 - VAT: Are VAT calculations handled correctly or is it amercanized first and foremost which we brits then have to work around? ;)

I'd love to try the demo but it looks like it's being upgraded at the moment so I'll give the free trial a bash in the mean time.

TIA :)

Hi Phil,

I can answer some of these for you...

AWBS/Helm Import - yes there is one, we used it.

http://www.whmcs.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1712

No importer for Helm, you would have to move things over manually.

The only problem is the current Helm module doesn't support reseller accounts, it only supports end user accounts. Matt should be updating the module though.

ProtX - Once the customer has a card on file it charges them on the due date. They only have to login once.

Nominet Module AFAIK it works, will need to test it myself this week once I try and work out PGP.

Enom - WHMCS works great with Enom both registering, transferring and renewing, My only problem is when a client transfers a domain no email is sent to let them know but this should be resolved soon, I hope.

VAT - WHMCS is developed by a UK developer, there is all sorts of Tax rules you can create (a million times better than what Helm can do). Install the demo to test things out.

Cheers Carl, small world aint it ;)

Is there an API for WHMCS that I can hook into? Bit of a show stopper on the Helm reseller accounts though.

Much as I don't want to have to re-invent the wheel, the more I look the more I think that the only option for a system to do exactly what I want/need would be to build it myself which is a mighty task...

I'm hoping the reseller issue will be fixed very soon.

WHMCS has an API:

At the moment we just use WHMCS with Linux/Plesk, but once the Helm module is updated I'll be using WHMCS and Helm together. Just going to take some time to manually move all clients across.

I have found this is not the case with certain cards, e.g: solo

As whmcs doesn't store the CCV number the card always declines as this is required for it to be processed.

Works fine for me, but I don't use Protx. :)
