Addons vs Configurable Options

I want to setup a maintenance package for my users, so they can add it to their web hosting. For example: $100/month for Drupal Maintenance and Updates.

Would this be best done by using an Addon or Configurable Option?

Currently I have configured this and am billing a couple of clients using the Addons method. One problem is, that they can't cancel/downgrade it themselves. It would have been nice if the documentation described this.

Another problem, is that one client just asked me if I can switch them to a yearly plan, but I notice this is not possible to upgrade them to a yearly billing cycle while using Addons? When you define an Addon, it only allows you to select one billing cycle, and not multiple billing cycles.
