Adding navigation items via Modules

Hi,

 

I am new to the forums, and am building out a plugin, and want to be able to have it add items into the main navigation when activated, and hide them when deactivated. I've read through most of the documentation and so far haven't came across how to do this.

 

Do you know if first of all this is even possible, and secondly if it is, how to do it?
