Moving servers

hi there, We are moving to faster servers and need to transfer our current files and databases across.

I have done the following.

Downloaded the backup file database inside whmcs admin area.

Also downloaded the database in cPanel.

Downloaded the entire account.

Is there anything I have missed ?

Cheers,

Tommy

Tommy,

The fastest thing to do would be to do a full backup of your account and download it, and then give it to your new host and ask them to restore it. This includes databases and files and will set everything up ready to go.

In cpanel, if you have root access do:

/scripts/pkgacct accountname

That will create a file named "cpmove-accountname.tar.gz" in your /home (or /home2) directory, which contains all your info, including files, email, dbs, forwarders, aliases, etc

What trine said is the same as what I said, except I didn't say that if you don't have shell access and can't do the pkgacct command, do it through the cpanel backup option - choose generate a full backup then download and remove it afterward.

even easier, just give your new host the login info and have him transfer your accounts for you using WHM's account transfer tool. I have moved 100% of sites this way and it works great.

Much easier this way too. Transfers SSL certs and all. You will have to use the DNS editing tools and correct the name servers.

Another possible option is (presuming you have root access) to use WHM and set up a cluster between the old and new servers. Let the cluster do the work (replication). As the new IP and name servers start to resolve clients will move from the old server part of the cluster to the new server, not physically but DNS wise.

After everything and everyone is resolving to the new IP's and name servers. Break the cluster and take the old server down. If all goes (famous last words) well clients shouldn't miss a beat because of the file replication in the cluster.
