ppc
Can someone point me to the manual or some other documentation that shows how to setup whmcs to work with paypal subscriptions and paypal invoices? More specifically I need to know what to do on the paypal.com side.... Thanks! ppc
5wayshost
You need to first setup a account with Paypal. Then you need to access your whmcs admin area and activate the paypal area for purchasing. Very easy and she works very well.
ppc
All that I did but I thought I needed to setup different settings in Paypal. Like an IPN or something like that.....
5wayshost
Nope, its all setup for you in the admin area. Login to your whmcs client area and read the manual friend. Its very easy to setup.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted July 5, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted July 5, 2007 As long as IPN is enabled at PayPal, the URL does not matter - WHMCS specifies an URL for the callback to go to when requesting the payment from the client. bogo
activating and let the Notification URL empty doesn't work! PP claims:"You must enter a properly formatted URL into the Notification URL field in order to activate Instant Payment Notification." So what URL is needed can someone give me a example? regards

PPH
Hey, You need to make sure that box is empty (remove the http://) out of the box when they ask you to enter in the IPN url. From, Adam Are you sure the http:// should not be part of the IPN of the url? I wrote PayPal regarding the IPN url and was told the following: As I review the account, I see you currently have the http: registered on your URL for the Paypal account. When you register it for IPN it should be done the exact same way including the http:
Adam
Are you sure the http:// should not be part of the IPN of the url? I wrote PayPal regarding the IPN url and was told the following: Yup, I'm sure. It should be left blank (nothing in their, no spaces, no http://, no nothing). The IPN url is already set when your clients click on the "Pay Now" button. PPH
Ahh OK I understand. When there is no need for an url. We had added the url for the previous subscriptions we had from a previous billing solution and needed the http:// preffix. Which brings me to the need for the IPN url requirement. Is it still needed to make sure that old subscriptions in the system get posted? I am referencing the subscriptions that were originally created by a different software.

WHMCS CEO Matt Posted July 24, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted July 24, 2007 Is the URL needed if the old subscriptions were created using WHMCS? No. And entering an URL only works if no callback url was specified with the creation command for each subscription, so most times, if you enter an url for the callback, it won't affect where the callback goes anyway. That's just the way Paypal Subscriptions work unfortunately and no way to overide it. Matt
floyd
As long as IPN is enabled at PayPal, the URL does not matter - WHMCS specifies an URL for the callback to go to when requesting the payment from the client. I have some that just login to their paypal account and pay directly from there. How can I get WHMCS to account for those payments?

floyd
Yes I know about the manual. I couldn't find my answer there. I searched paypal and ipn and read all 6 articles none of which addressed my question. So I decided to ask here after that and I get referred back to the manual. Seems I am caught in some kind of loop.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted August 8, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted August 8, 2007 Payments not made from WHMCS will of course not be tracked. You'll need to enter them manually. Matt
floyd
That is what I thought. Thanks Matt. I will create a PayPal ipn script to update the database for myself. If I do that will the callback that WHMCS generates override the ipn url I set in PayPal?
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted August 8, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted August 8, 2007 Yes, WHMCS sets the IPN url it needs for it's payments.
floyd
I am asking these questions because I am currently manually importing all my data. I guess the subscriptions work the same way. If they were not created using WHMCS then they are not going to have the call back url embedded in them. So any previous subscriptions I am going to have to handle on my own, correct?
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted August 8, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted August 8, 2007 If they had an alternative url set then yes. If no url was set when they were created, then they will go to whatever is entered at PayPal. Matt
