Recurring billing on payment gateways that don't support it

I need to sell monthly hosting. If my credit card payment gateway doesn't support recurring billing but just a one-time purchase would it be possible to create some sort of solution with WHMCS?

 

Could this be like an automatic invoice with a link to the one-time purchase again. Or will the customer have to log in and choose to pay the outstanding balance or something? I haven't used WHMCS so I'm not sure on how exactly it will work. How would you manage this?

If it's a merchant gateway, then yes, it would work fine. WHMCS automatically submits the charge to the merchant gateway each month.

But you should only do that if your merchant account allows recurring payments. Banks tend to monitor these things.
