Extra line breaks in piped emails

Does anyone else have this or am I alone?

 

When I reply to an open support ticket form my mail application (mail.app on Mac) the piped message has extra line breaks in the middle of sentances that aren't in the email.

 

When the customer replies all is fine as it is if I reply through Outlook Express (which isn't often as I am Mac based)

 

I'm using version 3.1.2
