Hi I am wanting to find out about email templates and using the merge fields?

I am wanting to create a email template and add some merge fields to it? I can get the client id, name, status to work but am having problems placing the link to my product carts for an upgrade option to a group of clients I have.

Any suggestions?

I don't understand what will be done with this email template. I assume you are not sending it manually to a group of clients who have purchased a specific service.

You could simply create a product group for addons and link them to this cart ID through the e-mail template.
