install location

Question

I was browsing the showcase forum and I noticed that some were installing WHM in the document root folder while others were installing in a sub folder.

We've used modernbill and clientexec in the past but always in a subfolder.

What are the pluses and minuses for installing in the doc root?

We've tried both.

No difference from a functionality point of view. However, installing as a subdomain (doc root) means it can be easily moved to another server if you wanted to without moving the entire main website. It also keeps your website and clients area seperate, say if you have a 3rd party web developer.

Paul

I s'pose there are therefore 3 options....

1. Install at ROOT of main website eg

www.domain.com/

2. Install in directory of main website eg

www.domain.com/clients/

3. Install under subdomain but at root level eg

clients.domain.com/

I like number 3. as it has the benefits of both 1. and 2. :D and is more portable.

Cheers,

Paul
