Feedback & Suggestions for future WHMCS theme

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

A couple months back, I designed a theme for WHMCS for them to create and use as the default one. However they hadn't found the time havign worked so hard on other features so I decided to make it myself.

Note: It's very early days on this theme, not even been working on it for more than 24 hours at the time of this post.

So far, only really the homepage has been edited, over the next week I plan on doing the subpages.

I welcome any feedback and suggestions you have to make this a really good default theme for WHMCS.

I'll agree and say it looks better than the current default template, however I can't say that it's really that much better. It's still almost exactly like it. But you gave me an idea..

The point was to pretty much keep it the same with more or less a new look. You can't change a default theme so radically. Though I can make some changes to the layout and feel free to make suggestions on how to improve the layout of it as thats what this thread is for.

I hope I haven't confused people into believing that I want to just release it as a theme in the user contributions, that is simply not the case. I would like to change the default look of WHMCS.

Can i create a background for this template? It will be a little different, might look a little more modern though?

You can have a go, though I quite like the current one because it makes it feel really clean and light.

EDIT: Having just looked at your site, are you wanting to do a dark background? If so, don't make one as I don't want to use a dark background.

Why not?

I think that's pretty obvious, it would affect current users and likely lead to more support requests to WHMCS because they don't know where a certain thing went or how to use a new thing. It's good keeping it how it is, nothing wrong with it at the moment.

That may be your opinion, but I disagree. To change it "so radically" as you mentioned would not necessarily cause any problems or support requests. I can certainly see how it could if you designed a new template so poorly, but I don't think an improved template could cause that many problems.

So no, it's not obvious. I am in fact suggesting that a completely different design can be implemented without any major problems. I'd like to try trashing the tables and going all CSS soon..

You seem to forget that not everyone has the technical knowledge you do and some will find it a lot easier to just submit a ticket then have a look around in the template. I know this as I have first hand experience from whmcslicences. It's a really small population but it all counts.

I'm sure that even using this theme the way it is now will break a few installs because of the way they tried to customise their whmcs (by just editing the default theme instead of creating a new one).

This was something I suggested almost a year ago but was not possible because of the fact not everyone knows css like they do html and tables. Now there is a user contributions forum, you could well have a go but it seems a lot of hard work with not much reward.

Experience is the greatest reward IMO. I think you may be misunderstanding me though. I'm not suggesting to design a template were things are hard to find. Obviously things are easy to find where they are, but it can be just as easy and possibly easier to navigate with a new layout, etc..

Of course not :) I was looking for suggestions on what people thought could be improved and how and I haven't really got anything useful yet.

Design and development is an art. A creative outlet so we should be creative.

A completely new template would help those who do not have the ability to customize their template to fit their site, so maybe even a few different templates could be useful as one would fit best for some and another for others.
