maintain login while navigatiing outside of /whmcs directory

i am using Wordpress as frontend/sales site, i have spent some time merging my header and footer with the Portal theme, and have it working well as long as the user does notleave the WHMCS portal. for example if they click theportal link from wordpress and login they can navigate through all of the portal pages, place orders etc with out issue, BUT if they navigate back to the home page of the wordpress install and return to the WHMCS portal they are logged out. this also seems to be the case using the built in themes as it produces the same result.

i would like to maintain the Portal login while navigating the reste of the wordpress site if it is possible.

i have verified the url is consistant between WP and WHMCS as far as using www. or not.

i am not so much worried about sharing the login between WP and WHMCS but it would be nice and may correct the issue if there is a solution /bridge. i have tried the WHMCS bridge plugin and it does not work well for me, it may be having some conflict with other parts of my theme.

one interesting thing i found and may be usefull to some one else with login issues. initially in IE i could not stay logged into my custom portal theme. Firefox, Chrome and Opera worked fine but when a user logged in using IE and changed areas within the portal they would be logged out. what i found causing the issue was a missing spacer.gif in the wordpress CSS file. once i corrected the path IE would stay logged in from within the portal.

thanks for any solution/suggestions you may be able to offer.
