Patty
When ordering domain registration only, nameservers fields are blank in the order form. I checked the online demo and it's supposed to insert default nameservers. What's wrong here? Where can I fix this or is there an option NOT to show nameservers upon registration? I'd like to send nameservers on the account activation email only instead of showing them in the order. Is it possible? TIA
trine
Default nameservers are set in the Server Admin (Configuration > Manage Servers) Then click the edit button for the selected server, and change the info in Nameservers Also make sure that your plan is set up to create with an existing server and hosting plan
Patty
I did that. That's why I think there's something wrong. It shouldn't be asking for nameservers for new domain registration... This is only for domain registration only. Order is being placed fine and account created in the server for regular packages.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted April 28, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted April 28, 2007 Why shouldn't it ask for nameservers for new domain registrations? How would you know where to point the domain the client has ordered if they don't enter the nameservers they want to use? The idea behind this is not all clients who buy a domain through you would want their site hosting on your servers so they have to be able to say where they want it pointing to. Patty
This is not how it works for me. I don't offer custom DNS, so all accounts use my own nameserver. If client needs custom nameserver or wants to point his domain somewere else, he will have to request it. None of my current clients ever requested this and most shared hosting clients don't even know what that is, so this is not something commonly used here. This feature would be good for reseller accounts mostly. Aren't nameservers based on the domain name? As far as I know, they cannot be picked at will (I might be wrong). Anyway, is it possible to turn this off or at least make it optional? The way it's setup it's required, I don't need it to be required. Tks for your reply.
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted April 28, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted April 28, 2007 You can edit the template files and set it to input type="hidden" and give the fields a default value. The fact they are showing blank when nameservers are entered in your admin area indicates you didn't update the order form templates during the upgrade when this feature of pre-filling the fields was added. Patty
Thank you, Matt. Will do that. But I didn't upgrade, it's a fresh install. So why my nameservers are not shwoing?
Patty
I'm not sure if this has something to do with it, but on my packages in the admin, the "Tick to show domain registration options" is marked and greyed out, so I can't changed it. How can it be changed?
WHMCS CEO Matt Posted April 28, 2007 WHMCS CEO Share Posted April 28, 2007 You can't disable domain options on a hosting product. Matt
Patty
OK, tks for your reply. But still, why my nameservers are not showing if I have them configured?
joe123
name servers show only if a customer orders a domain only , and it does NOT show when ordering hosting with a domain . I think it works this way !
Patty
Exactly. My problem is on domain registration only. I don't need and I don't want the client to have to input his nameservers. Most of my clients have no idea what that is! It should show my namerservers if anything. If that feature is for custom nameservers, it should be optional, for not everybody would want or would use their own custom nameservers but the nameserver of the reseller. And most of the time, the nameservers are configured after the domain anyway, so IMHO I don't see much use for this.
