reddexdesign
Hello All, I am looking to get a brand new dedicated server to use so that I can store client' files on it. I will need at least 1000GB and preferably unmetred bandwidth. All this has to be under £50 a month. I have narrowed down the choices to: http://www.ovh.co.uk and http://www.1and1.co.uk The OVH Servers have 2000GB and UNLIMITED bandwidth and cost £49.99 a month but with a setup fee of £49.99 and CPanel fees. UPDATE: See http://www.ovh.co.uk/products/superplan_mini.xml which is a slightly cheaper plan and has 2x 750GB Disk Space. The 1and1 Servers come with Parallels Plesk preinstalled for free. There is UNLIMITED Bandwidth (*5000GB). The price is £29.99 a month for 100GB and for 100GB after that it is £5 per 100GB. I have been told that 1and1 Customer Support is near to nothing so I am reluctant to go with them, but does anyone have any ideas on cheaper servers? I need a cheap and as big as possible... Share your ideas! Thanks, James Anderson Edited January 15, 2011 by reddexdesign
CDDHosting
I have not heard good things about either of those companies. Especially 1and1. I would recommend heading on over to WebHostingTalk and looking at offers over there. What CPU, ram and HDD specs do you need? You mentioned just bandwidth in your post.
uberhost
I agree with CDD, you need to do some research on the companies or you'll be sorry later. Cheers, Rick
reddexdesign
Hi, I need at least 1000GB HDD and ideally unlimited bandwidth. Thanks, James
uberhost
I need at least 1000GB HDD and ideally unlimited bandwidth. A 1TB HDD is no problem, but you'd be breaking the law of physics to get "unlimited" bandwidth. If you go with a host offering "unlimited" you'll be opening yourself up to reliability issues. My advice to you is to learn who the premium bandwidth carriers are and then find a host who uses those carriers. No one uses are much bandwidth as they expect (many of our clients on our 2TB bw program use less than 100GB!) so focus on quality bandwidth over quantity. CDDHosting
And what about CPU and Ram? You need to be more specific. Do you want cPanel/WHM? "I need a cheap and as big as possible... Share your ideas!" No offense, but that is not what current and potential clients like to hear and is not something that sounds very good to be coming from a business. Good service is always going to come at a price premium. If you can come up with a bit more cash, I would recommend RackSRV.com. I have always had great experience with them.

railto
I would stay away from 1&1 they are nothing but trouble. OVH are actually quite good and their management system runs really well, big thing you have to watch is support can be a bit off at times, but if you know what you are doing then you are grand. Running a server for £50 with cPanel as well is a very very hard find, whilst OVH have some very good deals, their prices dont include cPanel and all require a setup fee for monthly payment. I would look at raising your budget a little or change your approach and go for a vps for now and upgrade to physical once you have a need for that much space and can afford the higher price
