I have a client who signs up several people via our system, he then adds himself as contact to the account, now the person who adds themselves as a contact to the account has noticed that they cannot use the same e-mail address twice. You can have an unlimited number of contacts all using the same email address. They can't however share an email address when they are set as a subaccount (rather than just a contact) as then they will need to use the email address to login and hence it must be unique.
