Adding notes to support tickets

This isn't a technical issue, bug or anything like that. I've never really had a need to add notes to a support ticket in the past but just now I have one. When I click on notes, it says 'there are no notes' or words to that affect but there is no option to add any? Can someone please advise?

Type your not as a reply to the ticket, and then select "Add as a Private Ticket Note" from the post reply drop-down list.
