Help smarty snippet not working?

Hi

 

Why is this not working both are equal:

 

   {if $navpage.language eq $language}
     some code here
   {else}
other code here
   {/if}

 

$navpage.language = English

$language = English

 

But the above code only shows "other code here"

Can anyone help me?
